Quentin Tarantino Developing 'Star Trek' Movie Idea With JJ Abrams

The pair are discussing a story idea with plans to assemble a writers room

According to a sources who have spoken to Deadline, Quentin Tarantino may be about to collaborate with J.J. Abrams on the next Star Trek film.

Meanwhile, Variety reported that the two filmmakers have already begun work on setting up a writers' room to produce a script for the as-yet-untitled project. He also made it clear he wasn't a fan of Star Trek: Into Darkness, which Abrams directed. If the story is greenlit, it is not clear that Tarantino, now busy with pre-production of his film, which is about the Manson family, would have director or writer credits on the project. It recently snagged a release date of 19 August, 2019.

Tarantino's gone on record with his love of this franchise before, so it's not entirely shocking to learn the director might have a Star Trek story up his sleeve worth telling. The excitement about this particular project wouldn't be the impact that Trek would have on Tarantino; it's what Tarantino would have on Trek.

The director told Nerdist that, given the choice, he would prefer to direct a Star Trek film over Star Wars. What's more - Tarantino might even direct. "You could take some of the classic Star Trek episodes and easily expand them to 90 minutes or more and really do some fantastic, awesome stuff".
